Preparing for a tantra massage
A tantra-inspired massage is not a treatment to be performed on you; it is a slow, attentive ritual you take part in. These few notes are here so you arrive unhurried, at ease, and free to simply receive.
1. Understand what the ritual is
A massage inspired by body tantra is above all an invitation to slow down. The rhythm is unhurried, the touch continuous and attentive, and the intention is deep relaxation and a reconnection with the body rather than performance of any kind.
There is nothing to achieve and nothing to prove. Many people describe a lasting sense of calm and clarity that stays with them well after the appointment.
2. Choose the right moment
Avoid scheduling the massage between two obligations. Ideally, leave the hour that follows free so the state of relaxation can settle rather than being cut short.
Longer appointments are not simply longer: they allow time for conversation, for the breath to slow, and for genuine ease to appear on its own.
3. Prepare the body simply
Eat lightly two to three hours beforehand, drink water through the day, and keep alcohol to a minimum — the senses are far more receptive when clear.
A warm shower before arriving helps the body soften. Choose comfortable clothing that is easy to remove and set aside, and avoid heavy fragrance so scent does not compete with the atmosphere of the room.
4. Prepare the setting
Warmth matters more than décor: a well-heated room, soft light, clean linen, and a phone left silent in another room are enough.
If the massage takes place at your home or hotel, plan a quiet space where you will not be interrupted for the duration of the appointment.
5. Breathe, and let the mind arrive last
Breath is the thread of the whole ritual. Before we begin, take a few slow breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth, letting the shoulders drop with each exhale.
The mind usually takes a few minutes longer than the body. That is normal — there is no need to force it. Attention naturally follows the touch.
6. Speak about your boundaries beforehand
Comfort and consent are the foundation. Mention any sensitive areas, injuries, or anything you would rather avoid, and know that you can adjust or pause at any moment.
Every experience is personalised with care, respecting the rhythm, boundaries and wishes of each person.
7. Afterwards
Give yourself a few minutes of stillness before getting up. Drink water, move slowly, and if the evening allows, avoid returning immediately to a screen.
The sense of well-being often deepens over the following hours and can be felt for a day or more.
“The most precious gift we can offer anyone is our presence.” — Thich Nhat Hanh
Frequently asked
- What should I wear to a tantra massage?
- Something comfortable and easy to remove. A warm shower beforehand and no heavy fragrance are the only real recommendations.
- Should I eat before a tantra massage?
- Eat lightly two to three hours before. A full stomach makes deep relaxation harder, and so does arriving hungry.
- How long should the appointment be?
- One hour is enough to discover the ritual. Longer appointments simply allow more time for the breath to slow and for genuine ease to settle in.
- What if I feel nervous?
- That is common and entirely welcome. We begin with conversation, and the rhythm follows yours — you can adjust or pause at any moment.
